The Odell Beckham-Josh Norman Rivalry is ON
All-pro cornerback Josh Norman signed with the Washington Redskins on Friday for 5-years and $75 million dollars. Instantly, everyone's first thought is how the Odell-Norman rivalry will heat up... and rightfully so. These two will get the chance to get after it two times a year, for the next five years. Not to mention the matchup he will also have a matchup twice a year with Dez Bryant down in Dallas.
Let's step back from the rivarly between Odell and Norman for just a second here, and evaluate how exactly this impacts the Skins. The Redskins are a team that was on the fringe last year, and were just good enough to emerge victorious in a lackluster division. The addition of Josh Norman provides an anchor for a defense that was so-so last year. Whatever team they play, that team's #1 receiver most definitely will have his work cut out for him. This also allows the Redskins to not spend their first round pick on defensive back, a position which was weak for them last season. Now they're enabled a bit more flexibility, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go get linebacker or d-line help in the first round. While the season is still aways out, many have been downplaying the Redskins and they should absolutely not. The NFC East won't be much better this year and the reigning champs have certainly improved themselves.
The two times the New York Giants play the Redskins this season, heads will roll. Odell and Norman simply just hate each other's guts. From vicious physical encounters on the field last year when the Giants played the Panthers, to subtweeting on social media about one another months after the fact, this is a full blown beef. A beef that we will get to see once more than we did last year, and I bet Dez Bryant isn't going to be too fond of him either. I for one am very anxious to see how this season plays out, and the Redskins addition of Norman infinitely enhances the matchups between NFC East teams. Mark my words it will be vicious this year, and I can't wait.
