Making the Wright Decision

A little late here on the post, but better late than never.  The NCAA announced last week that coach of the Villanova Wildcats Jay Wright won coach of the year.  This decision was made previously to them winning the NCAA championship.  Jay Wright led the (33-5) Wildcats to their second championship in school history.  Entering the NCAA tournament as the 2-seed having arguably the toughest road to the final four, having to face 3-seed Miami and possibly the best 1-seed in the tournament Kansas.  Wright led Villanova to the end regardless of what happened in the past.  Most people chose Villanova to lose early in the tournament like the tend to do every year.  People thought Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim could have gotten the award, and rightfully so brining a 10-seed to the final four.  Ultimately I believe they made the right decision of giving the award to Wright leading a team no one had much faith in to a National Championship.

Player of the year went to Buddy Heild of the Oklahoma Sooners.  Heild was a scoring machine in the tournament and lead Oklahoma to the final four taking down number 1-seed Oregon.  Heild fell two points short of Stephen Curry's record of most points scored in the NCAA tournament (all four years combined).  Heild had a great season and a great tournament minus the 9 point performance in the beatdown by Villanova.  He shot nearly 50% from the floor during the season, 46% from three-point range, and nearly 90% from the foul line.  Heild was a great part of Oklahoma's success all year.
