Farewell RG3

Being someone who bleeds the burgundy and gold like myself, it was not that easy to say goodbye to Robert Griffin III. Yes, there was so much conflict and adversity after his rookie season, but I will not forget the memories from that run he made in 2012 for the Washington Redskins, leading us into the playoffs, before watching him literally crumble to the ground against the Seattle Seahawks on our own home turf. Luckily for us, the head coach at the time, Mike Shanahan, drafted Kirk Cousins in the fourth round, leaving the Redskins in a much better position right now than they should be in.

Giving up as much as the Skins gave up for RG3 to the St. Louis Rams before the 2012 draft, it is pretty amazing that the team was able to make the playoffs last year with a quarterback not named Robert Griffin III. I understand that the team from D.C plays in arguably the weakest division in football, but they still hosted a home playoff game against the Green Bay Packers, and that is something to be said about this team, given all of the bullshit they went through over the last couple of years. I give all the credit in the world to Kirk Cousins for grinding it out, playing when his number was called, and now it is his team, and he is the new face of the franchise moving forward. It even got to the point where Cousins lost his spot to the third string quarterback, Colt McCoy, and still Cousins battled, did not give up, and is standing in the position he is currently in. There is no competition going into OTAs or preseason this time around, Kirk is our guy and, more importantly,  he is the guy we want. So for that, I applaud Captain Kirk.

Wherever RG3 ends up, whether it is in San Francisco under Chip Kelly's regime, Houston, in Dallas backing up Tony Romo, or even in Cleveland, I can speak for the entire fan base in our nation's capital that we wish him the best of luck, and we hope to see him on the other side of the field matching up against us one Sunday in the near future, hopefully this upcoming season. Please, Robert, just do us all one favor, and stay out of a Cowboys uniform. However, if you do end up there, I will do my best to cheer you on even playing in the lone star state. We watched you grow as a man and as a player, and now we are going to watch you revamp your career somewhere else. Best of luck Robert, you will be missed.
