Eagles Continue to Burn Everything with Chip Kelly's Name on It, Ship Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell to South Beach.
Wowza. What a difference a year makes amiright? This time last year the entire city of Philadelphia was drooling over these two "game changers" in midnight green. Fast forward to the mid-point of last season and Kiko looked like he was playing on a pair of crutches and too many Eagles fans couldn't even point out Maxwell on the field. Both these guys probably deserved at least one more year to get acclimated, especially in Alonso's case, who was clearly restricted by that knee for all but a couple weeks. When it comes to Maxwell, though, the Birds are more flexible because they have guys like Rowe, Thurmond, and Nolan Carroll to pick up the slack now that Maxwell's gone. All three of those guys were already chipping away at Maxwell's playing time and making the plays Eagles fans hoped Byron would make upon his arrival. Because of this, I don't think the Eagles are losing much by letting Maxwell go, who's at best a #2 or #3 CB.
Kiko's departure definitely stings a little bit more. In my opinion he deserved more time to get acclimated, especially starting with a new team just a year removed from shattering is ACL. Kiko was clearly uncomfortable for the remainder of the season after aggravating that same ACL early in the season. Being a guy in his position, with the opportunity to step into a super star role on a team with high expectations, he clearly felt obligated to maximize his playing time, even if that meant playing at what looked like no more than twenty percent for the remainder of the season. Maybe I was just a really big fan of his hair, but last season was only his third in the league, I would've really liked to see what a fully healthy Kiko Alonso would've done for this dumpster fire of a franchise.
LET IT BURN!!!!!!
