It's finally here, the day NFL fans wait for the entire year. Family and friends gather around the couch, eat inordinate amounts of food, and absorb the biggest annual sporting spectacle in America.
In a way, you could make the argument that the Super Bowl is bigger than some of the major holidays we celebrate in our country. Super Bowl Sunday has essentially become a holiday and most certainly an American tradition.
As Super Bowl 50 kicks off at 6:30EST, it's interesting to look back at how its become more than just a game over the past 50 years. In reality, its just a game. If Peyton Manning loses and Cam hits the dab a million times, it won't change anything in our lives. Over the past decades, the media has played a humongous role in hyping up the first Sunday in February. This goes hand in hand with the marketability aspect of the SuperBowl.
Companies can spend up to $5 million for just 30 seconds of airtime to pitch their product. With ratings topping 110 million nationwide last year, it's easy to see why exactly they pay top dollar. Another factor that goes into it is the satire used in the ads that keep everybody's eyes glued to the TV the whole game. This comic relief shown in the majority of commercials is what keeps the prices for advertising skyrocketing.
Yet another great thing about the Super Bowl is of course the food. Below I've created power rankings for the best 3 foods on Super Sunday.
1) Baked Ziti

- Easy to make, delicious, Italian, can't get much better than that. This goes best with a nice side of antipasto, personally I enjoy some prosciutto and fresh mozzadell. By fresh mozzadell I mean mozzarella for those of you who are a little slow. Mozzadell is best in tiny little balls that you can pop into your mouth like a cheese puff.
2) Subs

- Perfect for parties, unlike the one pictured above, you can get a 3 foot long one and cut it into little pieces. My personal favorite has to be the chicken cutlet sub stuffed with roasted red peppers and fresh mozzadell. You also can't go wrong with a classic Italian sub with lettuce, peppers, salami, onions, and turkey. Subs are probably one of the more popular and traditional Super Bowl foods, but I had to give baked ziti the edge.
3) Nachos

- I feel terrible putting the Nachos down here because they are truly an ELITE Super Sunday snack. Give me infinity toppings on my nachos. Guac, taco meat, salsa, cheese, tomatoes, I don't care. These are #3 on this list but on the all-time snack list they have to be at the top. Seriously have you ever had bad nachos? Didn't think so, they're AMAZEBALLS.
