Draft Analysis and NYG Review

Number one offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil headlined the NFL Draft with his leaked video.  The video of Tunsil ripping a gas mask bong was released as soon as the draft begun.  The number one lineman then dropped to the third offensive lineman taken in the draft and the 13th pick overall.  Tunsil was projected to be the first lineman taken and at least inside the top 10.  With the 13th pick the Miami Dolphins rolled the dice and drafted Tunsil.  After the draft Tunsil then admitted to taking money from the coach at Ole Miss.  Text Messages show that the money may have been used to pay his mother's rent.  Either way it is a sticky situation for Ole Miss and Tunsil.

Onto the Giants... With six picks in the draft and one inside the top ten the Giants spend the 10th overall pick on DB Eli Apple from Ohio State.  Apple will be able to learn form D. Rodgers-Cromartie and new addition Janoris Jenkins.  If one of these guys go down Apple will provide depth at CB.  Also in passing situations he's good to lock up another WR.  I do not believe this was the Giants first choice but, with the Tunsil situation and Stanley and Conklin being drafted already, there was no other OL worth taking that high.  The Bears traded up to get Leonard Floyd and this is the guy I believe the Giants had their eye on, and once the Bears snagged him, they went with Apple, I don't hate the pick here.  Also wouldn't of minded Shaq Lawson here but Apple is a safe pick.
Next round they may have surprised some people with a WR pick Sterling Shepard out of Oklahoma.  Most people may have expected to go with a LB or an OL.  This pick gives them depth at WR behind Odell, and Cruz, after losing Randle to the Eagles.  You don't know how Cruz can perform after missing all of last year and half of the 2014 season.  Going with a WR here makes sense, Eli can't only throw to Odell if Cruz goes down again.  Giants also want WR Dwayne Harris to focus on returns and not burn him out at WR as well.
With their third pick they went with safety Darius Thompson out of Boise State.  Considering rookie Landon Collins was their only consistent safety last year the Giants definitely needed to add some depth after releasing Brandon Meriweather.  Giants really focused on improving their secondary in the draft, and maybe with Apple and potentially Thompson they can make some noise back there.
With the fourth pick Giants selected LB B.J. Goodson of Clemson.  Definitely lacking at LB to say the least Goodson was a captain at Clemson and has leadership ability on the field.  He is strong, good at filling the holes and taking on blockers but could lack coverage and making a play on the running back that is trying to get to the outside.  Overall a position that the Giants needed.
The fifth pick the Giants go with UCLA RB Paul Perkins.  This is easily my least favorite, don't know why they did it pick of the draft.  Perkins standing at just 5'10 208lbs is not a guy that is going to run you over.  Maybe if the Giants found a Brandon Jacobs like running back to improve their third and short scenarios in this round, I would like the pick.  With Perkins the Giants now have six RB's after signing Bobby Rainey from the Buccaneers, another signing that I don't understand.  Shane Vereen is their receiver out of the backfield and I'm unsure what Perkins brings to the table.  McAdoo says he is a complete back and can block, I need to see it to believe it.  Why not go with an OL pick here? Remember Richard Sherman was a 5th round pick, why can't the Giants find a diamond in the rough?
The final pick made up for the terrible 5th round pick.  Giants select TE Jerell Adams.  This may be the best sleeper pick of the entire draft.  Adams according to Todd McShay could be the drafts best TE.  Standing at 6'5 247lbs running a 4.65 (fastest by any TE in the draft) Adams is a force at the TE position.  He can block a DE, and at 6'5 go up in the air and grab a ball.  He is similar to Donnell their current TE, just an inch shorter and 20lbs less, but his 4.65 forty compared to Donnell's 4.91 can burst the Giant offense even more.  If Donnell goes down no worries Jerell is here!
Overall I think the Giants had a good draft, they got the positions they needed for the most part.  I give them a B+, can't give them anything higher based on the fact they ignored the OL.  They lack depth here and it's not often their OL stays healthy.  The Giants really need to go out there and sign someone who's gonna make a difference.  They could have gotten an A- if they drafted an OL in the 5th rd instead of adding a 6th RB.
