The Good and the Bad From the Yankees Opener This Afternoon.

Full Disclaimer: Had to listen to the game on the radio all day cause I don't live in New York at the moment. Regardless, I shouldn't have to ask to renew my mlb.tv membership mom. Getting on with it, the Yanks opened today with a 5-3 loss to the Astros of Houston, Texas. Pretty frustrating loss, to say the least, after things looked to be starting so well in the first few innings.

Let's get to the good:

Tanaka: Masahiro looked sharp over the first few frames. He was getting a ton of ground balls and staying around the strike zone really well. Definitely a good sign to see him coming out of the gate strong, especially after the shaky spring he had.

Castro: Starlin shined bright in his debut in the Bronx, knocking in two of the Yankee's three runs today via a RBI double in the second inning. Besides swinging a quick bat, Star showed some really quick hands in the field as well, charging in on multiple occasions to make a sharp play and beat a runner.

Didi: I love to see both Didi and Starlin coming out of the gates aggressive to start the new season. It's always good to see young guys that aren't afraid to swing at strikes early in the count and take advantage of a straight fastball, which is exactly what Sir Didi did in the 8th inning today for the Bombers. Ever since Didi came to the Bronx I've believed that he possesses the type of lefty swing that can put balls over the fence in Yankee stadium on a consistent basis, which is why I love to see him turning on straight inside fastballs like that with a lot of authority. If Didi can become a real threat to put the ball over the fence, this Yankees lineup could become really dangerous at home.

And the bad:

Bullpen: Really just Betances, who was god awful, which like hurts to say to be honest. If this is a sign of things to come for Dellin, then it's really going to be a long 29 more games without Aroldis to pick up the slack. We didn't get to see Miller today but hopefully he's as close to 100 percent as possible because we're going to need the both of them in shut down form to win ball games. The guys that followed Betances were surprisingly affective and got outs when we needed them, but I don't count on that being a common theme throughout Chapman's suspension. Be better Dellin. Way better.

Offense: Despite the two best friends up the middle, the Yankees bats looked reaaallllyyyy slow today. HOPEFULLY it was just the cold weather and they were having trouble gripping the bats, because Dallas Keuchel is really good, but the one thing he sucks at is throwing a baseball faster than 90 miles per hour, so we really shouldn't have gotten jammed as much as we did. Yes, I know Dallas' cutter is one of his better pitches, but the Yankees just looked like they weren't ready for the pitch at times. Hopefully it gets warmer, and we don't see anything like this tomorrow as the bats come alive.

Let's cut the bullshit and get this MONEY tomorrow.
