Braves cut Nick Swisher, is still owed $15 million in 2016

So Nick Swisher was released from the Atlanta Braves today. As a Yanks fan, I'll always be grateful for the energy he provided and everything he did in the 2009 season which led us to our 27th World Championship. Since he's left the Yankees, his numbers have just been south bound for awhile.

As you can see, not only has his home run count dropped but his average has plummeted (4th column from the right). It's one thing when you're hitting .250 with 29 HRs, and it's another when you're sub .200 with less than 8 HRs. I love Swish, but somewhere along the line somebody fucked up badly when dishing him a contract anywhere near $15 million dollars a year. Unless he's in Yankee Stadium, he has no chance to hit more than 10 HRs per year and it doesn't come as a surprise the Braves released him.

Nevertheless, Swish will still get his money from somewhere. Always tough to see a guy who played a big role for Yanks be on such a steady decline. Also would not be surprised if he called it a quits if nothing is out there for him.

For me, I'll always remember this...
