A-Rod plans to retire after 2017 season

Little bit of an odd headline coming out of Yankees camp today. A-Rod declares that he will be calling it a quits after next year. To be honest, don't like this move. It's too early when you say you're going to retire after the next two seasons are played.

HOWEVER...

Alex Rodriguez indefinitely changed the game of baseball in more ways than one. From his younger days in Seattle and Texas, his steroid indictments, and his up and down relationship with the Yanks. Say what you want, but when it's all said and done we will have more home runs than Babe Ruth, and be considered the best ever. Steroids or no steroids that's just a fact.

Just as Barry Bonds will never see the Hall of Fame, neither will A-Rod. It's a decision they made themselves but it doesn't take anything away from their raw talent. What's different between the two is Alex Rodriguez is playing more than a role this year for the Yankees than just a DH. He is leading the new wave of young Yankees into the next generation. I don't know if you guys heard him on FOX during the World Series, but his baseball smarts are out of this world. He's been there, and done that.

To be completely honest, it would not surprise me if the Yankees made a World Series run either this year or next. But as far as A-Rod's retirement announcement goes, I don't really get why he couldn't just wait until next season. Guess it doesn't really matter when you're swinging the bat like a psychopath at age 40.
